Climate Investments in California’s proposed 2024-25 budget
Yesterday, Jan 10, the Governor released the proposed budget, sustaining 89% of climate investments from 2021-2022 budget to 2024-25 budget. Note that 2023-24 was a year we had surplus budget in the state allowing for several single year funding initiatives, and thus not a great comparison point evaluating budget trends.
The 2021 and 2022 Budget Acts committed $1.9 billion for community resilience investments over multiple years to advance climate resilience in low-income and underrepresented communities. The Budget maintains $1.2 billion of these investments over multiple years in programs and projects to promote community resilience.
The Director of the Office of Planning and Research, Samual Asseffa speaks to specific initiatives to support disadvantaged and underserved communities at 30 minute mark of this Stakeholder Briefing Webinar. He highlights the Regional Climate Resilience, Regional Climate Collaboratives, Climate Adaptation and Resilience Planning Grants, and Extreme Heat and Community Resilience program.
